We've been installing smoke alarms in properties across the Coast for many years and have the experience to know each smoke alarm make and model intimately. External factors such as humidity and insects can adversely affect smoke alarms, and with this local experience, we're able to suggest the most reliable smoke alarms to install in your home or business, to minimise those nuisance false-alarms.
We don't charge a call out fee to visit you and discuss your smoke alarm installation. We offer FREE up front, no obligation quotes priced by the job (not the hour) so you know the full price before any work starts so there are no surprises.
Soon, every QLD home will, by law, need to have a fully interconnected photoelectric smoke alarm system installed. This means, a smoke alarm will need to be installed inside every bedroom and outside the bedrooms, and all interconnected with each other (so when one alarm activates, all alarms activate). Often with a 4 bedroom home, this is 6-7 smoke alarms, all interconnected with each other! Enforcement dates commence on the 1st January 2022 for homes being sold or rented, or 1st January 2027 for owner-occupied homes.
If you would like to upgrade your home to the 2022 and 2027 standard, or simply want some additional smoke alarms installed, get in touch with Smoke Alarmed by calling 1800 SMOKE ALARM (1800 766 532) or send us a text on 0437 822 487.
If you're selling or renting your property out, you've got until midnight on the 31st December 2021 to have your entire home fitted with photoelectric smoke alarms inside EVERY bedroom, in the corridors/escape areas and on each level, AND have them all interconnected with each other (when one alarm activates, all alarms activate). Fines and non-compliance notices are likely to be enforced. You won't be able to sell or rent your home without having this done. Beat the rush and rising costs. Be proactive and contact us today for a free quote.
Photoelectric smoke alarms are now mandatory in all QLD homes when replacing older expired alarms or when upgrading to the incoming 2022 and 2027 QFES smoke alarm legislation.
Photoelectric smoke alarms have replaced the now redundant ionisation smoke alarms, which are no longer allowed to be installed.
Smoke Alarmed are experts in the installation of all mains powered and 10-year-life lithium battery powered photoelectric smoke alarms, whether they be made by leading manufacturer's Brooks, Clipsal, PSA, Nest or Legrand.
Contact us today to arrange a photoelectric smoke alarm installation quote in your Sunshine Coast home or business.
Where mains powered smoke alarms can't be installed due to restricted wall and ceiling cavities or other installation constraints, non-hard-wired 10-year-life lithium battery powered photoelectric smoke alarms are the solution.
These battery powered smoke alarms can be interconnected with each other with physical wiring or wirelessly (using radio link technology or RF). But considering that these alarms are predominately installed in areas with little to no ceiling space, the interconnection between alarms is almost always done wirelessly.
Some smoke alarm brands have wireless interconnection modules which must be purchased separately to wirelessly interconnect these 10-year-life lithium battery powered alarms with each other. Yet other smoke alarm manufacturers provide alarms with in-built wireless interconnection, ready to go. The decision as to which is better can depend on site conditions, installation costs, budget, and other variables.

A smoke alarm system comprising of alarms in the corridors just outside of bedrooms is the very minimum protection you should have. For the optimum safety for you and your family, we recommend the installation of smoke alarms INSIDE every bedroom, and in the corridors, on each level, and all smoke alarms interconnected with each other (that means, when one smoke alarm activates, all alarms activate together).
It's all about providing you with the earliest possible warning in the case of fire. And having a 'network' of photoelectric smoke alarms throughout your home, all interconnected with each other, provides you with an earlier indication and the best chance of escape should disaster strike.

Mains powered (otherwise known as 'hard-wired' or '240 volt') smoke alarms are the preferred option when installing smoke alarms in your home here on the Sunshine Coast. They're often considered more reliable than battery only alarms, especially when considering they have two power sources (mains power and a back up battery).
So, where ceiling space facilitates the installation of new wiring, mains powered smoke alarms are recommended. However, some properties simply don't have the accessible ceiling space required to install mains powered smoke alarms, in which case 10-year-life lithium battery powered photoelectric smoke alarms are the only option.
Mains powered smoke alarms will always have a back up battery in case of power failure. This back up battery can be either a replaceable 9 volt battery (this should be replaced once per year) or a sealed 10-year-life rechargeable lithium battery (these don't require any battery replacements and are becoming increasingly popular).
Nest produce a clever range of smart smoke detectors which provide audible and visual alerts, pathway lighting, and automatic self-testing. They can be controlled via the Nest app which can tell you things like battery life, alert you to the presence of alarms and what locations they are, as well as being able to turn off false alarms with the app. The Nest smoke detector will auto- test themselves once per month and will also give you visual and spoken audible warnings of alarms before they occur (so you have a chance to silence them in advance if needed).
A motion detector in the device can assist by illuminating escape paths when you need it and an ambient light detector knows whether its day or night.
They contain a split-spectrum photoelectric sensor which allow it to detect both small and large smoke particles. With an in-built carbon monoxide sensor, it can also alert you to the presence of this deadly substance.
They're available in both mains powered and lithium battery powered models. These are next-level, futuristic smoke detectors which set a new standard in smart smoke detectors. Smoke Alarmed has vast experience in the installation of Nest Protect smoke detectors. Contact us today to see if they're a good fit in your home.
We don't recommend installing photoelectric smoke alarms near/inside a kitchen or inside a garage. This is where a 'heat alarm' is perfect.
A heat alarm is a device designed to respond when the thermal energy of a fire increases the temperature of a heat sensitive element inside, and is therefore triggered when temperature increases. They are not susceptible to false alarms from the cooking smoke particles found in kitchens nor the carbon monoxide found in garages.
Smoke Alarmed can install heat alarms in your home to supplement your existing photoelectric alarms, and can even interconnect them with each other (so no matter which type of alarm is triggered, all alarms will activate).
If you're a landlord and rent your house or plan to sell your property, you won't be allowed to do either after 1st January 2022 unless you have a whole-house photoelectric and interconnected smoke alarm system installed. This means, you will need a photoelectric smoke alarm (either hard-wired or powered by a non-removable 10-year-life lithium battery) installed in each bedroom, and outside the bedrooms in the corridors, between the bedrooms and the escape areas, plus one on each level of your home. Often in a 4 bedroom home, you will need to have installed 6-7 interconnected smoke alarms!
If your property is simply owner-occupied, the deadline to have your whole-house smoke alarm system installed is 1st January 2027. By law, EVERY home in Queensland will need to have this full smoke alarm system installed in the near future, so it's just a matter of time.
Be proactive about your smoke alarm obligations - Arrange for Smoke Alarmed to install a 2022 and 2027 compliant whole-house photoelectric and interconnected smoke alarm system in your Sunshine Coast home now. You'll avoid extended waiting times and likely higher costs if you choose to act now.
Residential fire alarm installations are our specialty here at Smoke Alarmed. Our recommendation is to install a hard-wired fire alarm inside each bedroom, as well as outside the bedrooms (between the bedrooms and the escape areas). Also, these fire alarms should be interconnected with each other, so that when one alarm sounds, all alarms sound.
Interconnection can be carried out using wiring or wirelessly using RF. Interconnecting your fire alarms provides a quicker warning in the case of fire and provides you with the very best chance of early escape.
There are specific installation considerations when positioning fire alarms in your home on the Sunshine Coast, namely, ensuring minimum distances from lights, ceiling fans, air vents and walls.

Smoke Alarmed upgraded my house in Maroochydore with a fully interconnected smoke alarm system. Prompt, neat, tidy and respectful of my home. They even found a couple of electrical safety issues which they fixed free of charge whilst they were there. We feel much safer now.
Got referred to Smoke Alarmed by a friend. They came initially to look at a chirping fire detector but I ended up choosing to install fire detectors in my bedrooms as well. There was no pressure from them at all - they were able to give me the information to make an informed decision. Highly recommended.
Luke's attention to detail and customer service is what others should be measured by. He installed 7 fire alarms in my home in Birtinya and not a trace of mess was left. I'm a bit OCD so was delighted to find he had installed all new alarms straight, facing the same way, left no fingerprints on the ceiling etc. Very high attention to detail. A+ job and customer service!
